Hi, I'm Sammelan

I have built and operated systems at scale. Now I apply AI and ML where it matters.

Background

I build systems that balance reliability, usability, and impact, shaped by my experience shipping distributed systems under real traffic, strict service levels, and tight budgets. At Intelity, I am developing a conversational AI platform for the hospitality sector that lets managers create and deploy chatbots with custom knowledge bases and configurations to handle ticketing, ordering, and smart insights.

Apart from my work at Intelity, I also focus on applying AI where it can create meaningful change. With OpenCivicLine, I am building civic infrastructure that helps governments listen more clearly to their citizens, transforming scattered voices into prioritized insights that make governance more inclusive and responsive.

I am driven by both practical impact and curiosity. As an engineer, I care about shipping tools that people can actually use, but I also find energy in asking the deeper questions: how can AI systems be made more robust, interpretable, and accessible? For me, building is as much about learning as it is about delivering. Each project is a chance to explore new ideas, test them in the real world, and let curiosity guide the next iteration. My philosophy is simple: start small, measure honestly, learn fast, and ship with purpose.

Current Work

I design reliable systems and add AI where it truly helps, with clear eyes on latency, cost, and accuracy.

AI in Production

I deploy agents and models with evaluations, guardrails, and continuous monitoring. Speech, retrieval, and language tasks that improve user experience and metrics.

Software Architecture

I design and operate scalable and resilient platforms with event driven services, queues, caches, and deep observability that stand up to real traffic.

Applied R&D

I validate ideas with small pilots and then harden what works. From retrieval and ranking to speech and vision, shipped, measured, and iterated.

Community

Contributing to developer communities and mentoring. Organized workshops and bootcamps focused on practical skills and real deployments.

Outside of Work

I'm a cinephile, a reader of philosophy and fiction, and an occasionally over-optimistic cricket watcher. To balance the sitting and thinking, I love playing pickup basketball. Most evenings end with friends and a bit of humble scheming about the "next SaaS" - half joke, half roadmap.

If you have a film or book recommendation, a cricket hot take, or a tiny product idea to noodle on, say hi.
